FAQs

  • While my focus is in perinatal mental health, I offer individual therapy for adults in all stages of life. I am a person centered therapist who believes that a safe and trusting relationship forms the basis for deep emotional work and growth. I make it a point to show up authentically to each session, providing a space for you to discuss whatever is on your mind. Each person who comes to therapy has their own set of individual histories, concerns, and uniqueness, and I tailor my approach accordingly, drawing from evidence based treatments such as cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies, as well as dynamic and existential approaches.

  • Common areas I work with include:

    • Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders

    • Navigating pregnancy and fertility

    • Early parenting

    • Depression and Anxiety

    • Relationship challenges

    • Trauma and PTSD

    • Grief and loss

    • Life transitions

    • Self-esteem and identity concerns

If you're not sure whether therapy is right for your specific concern, feel free to reach out — I'm happy to talk it through.

  • Yes. I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant virtual therapy sessions for clients located within New York State. Online therapy provides a convenient and flexible way to access support from the comfort of your own space.

  • The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask questions about your background, current concerns, and what you'd like to achieve in therapy. It’s also a time for you to ask any questions you have. Together, we’ll decide on the best path forward.

  • Sessions are typically 45 minutes long. Frequency depends on your needs — most clients start with weekly sessions, and we adjust from there.

  • My current fee is $175 per 45-minute session. I offer limited sliding scale spots based on financial need. Please reach out for details.

  • I am in-network with Optum, United, and Aetna. If your plan is not one of these, I can provide a superbill for potential reimbursement. It’s a good idea to check with your insurance company about your out-of-network mental health benefits. I am happy to discuss and guide you through this process.

  • You can get started by filling out the contact form on my Contact Page, or emailing me directly at erin@erinknittel.com. I offer a free 15-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit.

  • Yes. Everything we discuss in therapy is confidential and protected by law. There are rare exceptions related to safety or legal obligations, which we’ll go over in our first session.

  • That’s completely okay. Many people feel uncertain before starting therapy. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel heard, respected, and supported.
